Chivas snuggles with Tanya as she gets acquainted with her surroundings. She started out a little shy but soon joined in and felt right at home. So many parents have told us how playful and outgoing their little ones have gotten after staying at Paws in The Woodlands. |
Most of our guests are used to being home with either Mom or Dad and don't do well alone for extended periods of time. Do you hesitate when you think about going downtown for the day? Do you worry about your little one being home the day the house get sprayed? Does your little one run for the door the day your getting the carpets cleaned? We specialize in the little ones. This means we are more about socialization and comfort than exercise. Doggie Day Care is a cage-free concept in day time dog watching . The play group environment helps your dog become more socialized, which translates into friendlier more manageable pet in group situations. Many of our beloved pets have never seen the inside of a cage and therefore become stressed when they have to be boarded in a traditional kennel. We live on the premises and provide a homelike atmosphere for your loved ones. This helps your pet adapt more quickly and enjoy the experience even though they are away from you. The group environment encourages interaction and play but our primary goal is one of hands on care. Most of our guests are used to setting in their owners laps or snuggling up next to them on the couch. Isolating a dog that isn't used to that environment can be highly stressful and ultimately may cause illness. We keep many guests for 2 weeks to a month, our goal is a happy well cared for guest.
We are very easy to locate. Just exit I45 at the Rayford/Sawdust exit and turn west on Sawdust Rd. Go three lights towards Grogans Mill and turn right (North) on Budde Rd. We are about 1/2 mile down, on the right side. You can't miss the "Paws in The Woodlands" sign. See our "Map" web page for a map.
A Cage-Free environment is very selective. Your pet will be interviewed and tested for aggressive behavior prior to joining the play group. If your little one is aggressive and doesn't play well with others, he/she wouldn't do well in this type of boarding. This approach reduces the overall number of potential guests. If your dog was 1 of 100 guests, how much actual time would they get to play or set in a lap. Some pets don't have the personality to adjust to a group environment. If they are shy, it may take a few visits before they feel comfortable and at home. There is also a lot more hands on interaction in a cage-free environment. We limit our guests to about 15 per day. This lets us maintain a manageable group where everyone can get lots of attention and reduced stress. The end result is a happier pet and an owner that isn't worried about their loved one.
We have many guests that are under 10 pounds. While the bigger breeds may be lovable, they can also be very playful. A 40 pound puppy can unintentionally hurt a little 9 pound guy during the course of play. We find that keeping the weight similar helps avoid accidents before they happen. We may be over cautious but "they are not just dogs" they are part of the family. We like to limit weight to about 20 pounds unless the guest is older. We do have a few 25 pound guests that are considered seniors at 13+ years of age.
We screen all guests for aggressive behavior prior to allowing them into a play group. If we see unacceptable behavior in a guest we gently try to correct it. If correction is unsuccessful the guest will be immediately separated from the play group. If a guest becomes dominant or aggressive, they are not allowed back to visit.
We have many different beds, cushions and blankets for our guests. They are free to sleep in their own crate if they are crate trained. At bed time, most of our guests are snuggled up on or around the playroom futon and are ready for a good nights rest after a hard day of play. We also have separate rooms for the guys that are used to being crated in a room away from the family, but these are seldom used. We also have cameras in rooms so we can peek in at night or when the guests are napping.
